How the Rate Checker works

This is a directional estimate, not a quote or an appraisal of your business. Here's exactly where the numbers come from and what they do and don't account for.

The short version

We start from Angi's published national cost guide for your chosen service — a typical price range covering materials and labor across the country. We then adjust that range up or down by how your state's wage for that trade compares to the national baseline wage, using public Bureau of Labor Statistics data. That's the whole calculation: a national guide, adjusted for your state's labor cost — not a local price survey, and not Servinix customer data. We're pre-launch and don't have our own pricing data yet, so this is our honest best estimate from public sources, cited in full below.

What this does and doesn't cover

Included in the adjustment:

  • The national typical price range for the specific service, from a published cost guide
  • How your state's labor wage for that trade compares to the national wage

Not included:

  • Your business's overhead, insurance, permits, or equipment costs
  • Profit margin, your pricing strategy, or your brand/reputation premium
  • Local demand, competitive density, or season in your specific market
  • Anything at the city or county level — the adjustment is state-level only

Use it as a directional sanity check against a national benchmark, not as a substitute for knowing your own costs.

Coverage & updates

Today the Rate Checker covers Plumbing, HVAC, Landscaping across California, New York, Texas, Florida, Ohio, Georgia. We're expanding both trades and states as we curate more sourced data — each addition is new rows in the dataset, not a rebuild, and every number keeps its own citation and as-of date the same way the ones above do.
