Add, edit, or retire an asset type

Asset types define the kinds of equipment your business services. You can add new ones, edit their attributes, or retire ones you no longer use.

Before you start

You need an admin or office role. Field technicians can view asset types but cannot change them.

Steps

1. Go to Settings › Asset Types.
2. To add one, select Add asset type, enter a name, and define its attributes.
3. Give each attribute a machine key in lower_snake_case (start with a letter, then letters, digits, or underscores).
4. To stop using a type, open it and choose Retire.
5. Save your changes.

Result / verify

The new or updated type appears in the list, and retired types are marked accordingly. Attribute keys that don't match the required format are rejected with a message so nothing is saved by mistake.
