Create a job and assign it to a technician
Create a job for a customer, add the work to be done, and choose who will do it. You can schedule it now or leave the date empty and schedule it later.
Before you start
- The customer must already exist. If not, you can add one from the job form, or see Add a customer.
- The customer needs at least one site. If the customer has none, add a site on the customer record. See Manage customer sites.
- Technicians must be active users to appear in the technician list.
Steps
- In the portal, open Jobs and click Add Job. The New Job page opens.
- Optional: under What Kind of Visit?, click a job type tile. The form fills in the services, duration and priority the type usually needs. Click Blank Job to start empty.
- Under Customer, click Choose a Customer and select the customer. To create a new customer, click Add Customer.
- Pick the Site where the work will happen. If the site has contacts, confirm the Site Contact.
- Under Services, add the work. Click Browse Pricebook to pick items, or type in the line field to add a custom line. Every line needs a Category. Line items are optional, so you can create a job without prices.
- Under Technicians, click Assigned Technicians and choose one or more people. Optionally choose a Supervisor.
- Optional: set the schedule. Pick a Day and Time, and set a Duration. Leave it empty to save the job without a date. The form shows which time zone the time uses.
- Under Job Details, enter a Title. Optionally set the Priority (Low, Medium or High) and add internal Notes.
- Check the To Create checklist in the summary panel. When every required item is done, click Create Job.
Result / verify
A Job created message appears and you return to the Jobs list in List view. The new job is at the top of the list, tagged New. The summary panel showed Crew (the assigned technicians) and Schedule before you saved.
To change the technician or time later, see Reassign a job and Schedule a job.
Troubleshooting
Create Job is disabled. Open the To Create checklist. It lists what is missing, such as a customer, a site, a title, or a category on every line.
A technician is missing from the list. If the services need certifications, only technicians who hold all of them are shown. You can also add Required Certifications to narrow the list. Check that the technician is an active user.
The customer has no sites. Click Add Customer to add one with a site, or add a site on the customer record first.
